University lecturers and the 'missing' Covid-19 cushioning allowances

18 Jul 2020 at 07:32hrs | Views
Dear Editor,

Please allow me to take advantage of your widely read online publication to express my concerns over the seemingly non-payment of the President Mnangagwa awarded 50% of gross salary Covid-19 cushioning allowances for civil servants (while everyone waits for the USD75 allowance).

I have been reading in newspapers and hearing all other civil servants joyfully acknowledging receiving the said allowance. But to my surprise University lecturers and the rest of the University staff have not received a single dime of the same allowance. May I please call upon the relevant authorities to expedite the payment of the allowance as this will greatly cushion and motivate this group of affected people in this Covid-19 situation.

Urgent action from the authorities will be greatly appreciated since University employees are also civil servants and are equally affected by adverse economic events induced by Covid-19.

Thank you

Indirectly affected.
