The opportunistic useless soldiers

It is known that the soldiers of Saul were cowards who could not challenge the boastful Goliath (1 Samuel 17:11). But there is something interesting as we observe their reaction after the slaying of Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:52, "Now the men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted, pursued the Philistines as far as the entrance of the valley and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell along the road to Shaaraim, even as far as Gath and Ekron. Then the children of Israel returned from chasing the Philistines and they plundered their tents."
It's indeed interesting although disappointing to note that the army of Israel diligently pursued the Philistines only after the shepherd boy had killed the giant. I would have dearly loved to see the army of Israel and the army of Judah to arise and shout earlier on when David was confronting the giant. I would have loved the soldiers of Saul to stand by David and give him all the necessary support which they needed. I would have loved the armies of Israel and Judah to boost David's morale by shouting some songs of praise and motivation when he stepped out to face Goliath. But alas, these soldiers kept quiet when it mattered the most. They disappeared when their praise, shout or war cry would have been a great inspiration for the young boy. Yet these very same soldiers suddenly appeared after David had faced and defeated the giant all by himself. Not only did these disappointing, unreliable soldiers surface after the giant had been killed, but they were the ones who suddenly ran forward to plunder the possessions of the Philistines.
Sadly, there are always going to be a lot of these opportunistic soldiers everywhere we go, even in the army of Jesus Christ, soldiers who only arise when things are going on well, when challenging thing has been dealt with. It's devastating to have leaders and brethren, who only want to run to the forefront when things are moving smoothly in the kingdom. These disappointing opportunistic spiritual comrades disappear when the body of Christ faces challenges. They are nowhere to be found when you need their support. They are silent when you are facing your Goliath. However they want to step out, dominate and be on the spot- light the moment storms are over. They want to take over, arise, shout and be seen only after you have single handedly killed Goliath, how disappointing. Be warned, as you embark on your journey towards the Promised Land, except to meet these unreliable fellow comrades along the way. Don't expect too much from them, they hide from you when it matters the most. Sincere, reliable, caring, supportive and bold fellow soldiers will stand their ground and they will stick with you through thick and thin. However this reliable caliber of brethren is very scarce. The world is just congested and overpopulated will always be nowhere to be found when we need them most. You better get used to it. Its part of your journey to your God's intended destiny.
