'Peace begins with me, Peace begins with you, Peace begins with all of us'
The Chief Secretary, Dr. Misheck Sibanda, Deputy Chief Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Senior Management and Staff in the Office of the President and Cabinet join His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and the nation in commemorating the eighth anniversary of the passing on of former Vice President, Honourable John Landa Nkomo on 17th January, 2013.

A fearless revolutionary and distinguished son of the soil, Cde. John Landa Nkomo will always be remembered for devoting his entire life to the nation of Zimbabwe, first as a fighter during the Second Chimurenga and later as a builder of bridges that firmly entrenched peace across the length and breadth of Zimbabwe.

During the First Republic, Cde. Nkomo served in various capacities as a Minister of Government, National Chairman of the ruling ZANU-PF Party, Speaker of Parliament, Chairman of the Organ for National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration, and finally as Vice President until his demise.

Indeed, it was during his leadership of the Organ that the mantra "Peace begins with me, Peace begins with you, Peace begins with all of us" became a national rallying point for building peace.

We therefore draw inspiration from Cde. Nkomo's loyalty, dedication and untiring efforts in serving the nation diligently at all times, from the early years of independence to the Land Reform Programme, including his involvement in processes to create and strengthen democratic institutions which the Second Republic is now further refining for a better and prosperous Zimbabwe.

As the nation commences implementation of the National Development Strategy I: 2021-2025 towards the attainment of Vision 2030 for a knowledge and technology-driven upper middle-income society, those of us serving in the Office of the President and Cabinet commit ourselves to devoting all our energies to the process of directing and coordinating Government policy formulation and decision-making in response to the people's needs and expectations.

We therefore assure His Excellency the President and the entire nation of our commitment to ensure the delivery of effective and efficient services across the whole of Government.

May the soul of former Vice President and national hero, Cde. John Landa Nkomo rest in eternal peace.
