She found favour in God's eyes

Archana was an orphan, a very unenviable status and circumstance especially when very young. It's the time children need their parents most, a time of bonding.

Adults can be orphans too but theirs is a circumstance of self consciousness and introspect that rarely attract sympathy from anyone, only self pity. Losing parents at about two years, life became an uphill task in the hands of foster parents, some close relatives.

Nevertheless, Archana did not stop growing, she found favour in God's eyes so much that sickness and ill health were alien to her. Meal times became a rat race, the weaker would eat less. Schooling was erratic due to unpaid school fees, such became way of life, it became life.

She did well at Grade Seven much to the surprise of most who knew her. Never missing Sunday School at the local church in rural Mbire District, Mash. Central, her star continued to shine despite her near bondage existence.

At O-Level it was aaahs and oohs as Archana's results were the only slip showing five straight As, very impressive. A Good Samaritan offered to pay for her A-Level and tertiary education.

Her kith and kin who treated her like not one of their own started pointing fingers at each other for treating the girl badly in her early days.

Archana, now grown and beautiful, is the Sales Executive of a well known soap manufacturing company in Bulawayo. Driving a top of the range SUV, she still visits her relatives in Mbire with plenty groceries, jiggies for tiny tots and chunks too.

Even a couple of the sorghum beverage for that talkative uncle who always reminds her of the early days. Remember taking children to Sunday Schools. The knowledge of God is the beginning of wisdom.
