Zimbabwe records 25 new COVID-19 cases, total at 1,089

25 more people have tested positive to COVID-19 bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1089.

In a COVID-19 daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care reported that the new cases include 3 returnees from South Africa and the rest are local cases.

"One of the local cases is a contact of known confirmed cases. Investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the remaining 21," the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Harare still remains the epicentre of the virus, with a total of 367 confirmed cases followed by Bulawayo with 188 cases and Matabeleland South with 160.

The least affected province is Mashonaland Central with 11 confirmed cases.

The number of local transmissions has increased lately with a total of 346 local transmissions in Zimbabwe.

Bulawayo has recorded the highest number of local transmissions, 153.

Mashonaland Central has not recorded any local transmissions so far.

Bulawayo also has the highest number of recoveries, it has 88 recoveries and 93 active cases.

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic stands at 20, with most deaths being recorded in Harare and Bulawayo.

A total of 95 860 tests have been done in Zimbabwe.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care continues to encourage people to "always wash their hands with soap under running water or use an alcohol based sanitiser before putting on a mask and after removing the mask."
