'Soldiers brutalizing my people,' says traditional chief

Guruve chief Chipuriro has denounced members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) currently enforcing Covid 19 lockdown laws in Guruve for brutalising his people.

Speaking at a meeting organized by the Institute for Young Women's Development (IYWD) Chipuriro said soldiers should stop attacking civilians.

"Soldiers are attacking my people in Guruve and recently l have a nephew who sustained a ear injury due to attacks by soldiers," Chipuriro said.

"This habit should stop. Enforcing is not attacking teach the people on how to fight Covid 19 pandemic not assaulting them."

A member of IYWD who is also the chief's advisor Catherine Gora said soldiers are demanding free sex  services from thing vendors and fleecing drug peddlers.

"As young women we are in trouble with soldiers here they demand free sex and if you refuse they assault you, some of us are drug peddlers they also come demanding free drugs if you do not give them they will assault you," she lamented.

Contacted for comment ZNA spokesperson, Lieutenant Alphios Makotore said he is  on sick leave and refered further questions to their public relations office which did not pick calls.
