Minister of Home Affairs Kazembe Kazembe has come under fire after failing to provide police officers with adequate protective clothing during the coronavirus lockdown period.

Journalist Hopewell Chin'ono said it was unfortunate that police officers were being packed like sardines when the law says people must stand one meter from each other.

"Once again I ask the Government to give police protective masks and rubber gloves!" Chin'ono said. "They are packed in a truck like sardines going to enforce physical distancing in Norton, something that themselves are not practicing! No decent cars! Why? These are the outcomes of LOOTING!"

Political analyst and constitutional lawyer Shephard Dube said Kazembe's approach to handling the security forces during the lockdown period was appalling.

"I am appalled by the situation that is happening in the police services. Minister Kazembe has literally failed to mobilise resources for police in these trying times," Dube said. "As Zimbabweans, we must breast for the storm, apocalypse, and cataclysm if one of the police officers catches the virus. No hospital will be able to contain the sick people, and no mortuary will be able to collect and store the dead bodies.

"Kazembe is also to blame for not taking into consideration the needs of vendors during this period. Zimbabwe is an informal sector based economy, unlike South Africa. If I had my way I would have him replaced because it's a huge scam that he is still the Minister of Home Affairs today."
