Zimbabwe's maize stocks which had received a shot in the arm through a multi million dollar grain deal between  Shepherd Bushiri Investments and Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe have suffered a minor glitch due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Sources close to the deal have indicate that the South African based Prophet Shepherd Bushiri had already facilitated the movement of thousands of metric tonnes of the basic commodity but movement has been slowed down by the Coronavirus pandemic that has brought the world to a halt.

Transport operators have withdrawn their services over fears of the virus as drivers are also afraid of contracting the virus or being quarantined on return from the Zimbabwe trip.

A truck driver who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the drivers were excited and looking forward to contributing towards Zimbabwe's food security, however their personal safety and health is also of paramount concern.

Meanwhile GMAZ Chairman Tafadzwa Musarara is engaged in talks with the Zimbabwean authorities in Pretoria to facilitate special permits granting passage to trucks ferrying maize as it is regarded as an essential service and commodity.

Insiders revealed that Tafadzwa Musarara had gone beyond the call of duty and was working to ensure that transporters have safety gear as well as adequate paperwork to expedite the transportation of Zimbabwe bound maize for the food security of the nation.
