The government is not contemplating closing Zimbabwe's borders for now, as the lethal coronavirus to spread and to create havoc around the world.

This comes as many countries are taking drastic measures ranging from closing from their borders and banning big public gatherings, as part of desperate efforts to halt the spread of the killer disease.
South Africa is closing two-thirds of its border posts on land, and two out of eight sea ports will not be accepting passengers or allow vessel crews to rotate through, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Sunday night.

The closures are part of wide-ranging measures to slow the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus behind Covid-19, in South Africa.

People from high-risk countries will not be allowed into the country at all, and those from what are considered medium-risk countries will face extended health screenings.

Border posts with Lesotho, eSwatini, Mozambique, Botswana, and Namibia are affected.

Meanwhile, Treasury has a $3,2 billion kitty to fund social protection programmes for vulnerable members of society and also bankroll contingency measures against the spread of coronavirus.

The resources were generated from Government's cash surplus position, as authorities continue ramping up ongoing fiscal consolidation measures. Coronavirus, known as Covid-19, has been spreading rapidly in different parts of the world.
