More than 6 500 pupils dropped out of school due to pregnancies and early marriages in 2018, with UNESCO reporting that among these are 411 primary school children.

In total, the country recorded a total of 38 071 dropouts.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Professor, Paul Mavhima, confirmed the statistics, stating that the poverty,  adolescent delinquency, including drug abuse and the infamous vuzu parties had contributed significantly to the worrisome statistics.

He said Government expects that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
