President Emmerson Mnangagwa has emphasised the important role the youth play as the pillar of the ruling party.

He was addressing thousands of youths at the Zanu PF Youth League National Convention in Kadoma.

He responded to the issue of hindrances to artisanal mining and promised to deliberate with the Mines Minister with a view to coming up with a decision on whether to have exclusive prospecting orders in place or cancel them.

He told those who fight over mining claims to stop violence using machetes and promised to come up with legislation that criminalises the possession of the weapon.

President Mnangagwa also called for orderly and organised mining, including at David Whitehead textiles in Chegutu where a gold rush erupted weeks ago before the site was closed.

Meanwhile, government has assured the nation that power outages will end completely within the next 18 months.

This follows an agreement signed this Monday between Zimbabwe and representatives of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince for the establishment of a 2 000 Megawatt Solar Plant.
