FARM workers in Mazowe have embraced the Pfumvunza farming concept in a bid to curb hunger at household level.

The workers received inputs in Mazowe ward 34 on Saturday being spearheaded by councillor Edwin Chinotimba.

Chinotimba hailed the government for issuing inputs before the rain season saying it will go a long way in ensuring food security.

"We would like to thank the government for giving us the inputs before the rain season that will surely improve the livelihoods of people and  food security of the country,"Chinotimba said.

He further warned the farmers not to sell the inputs.

"I am giving a strong warning to you not to sell the inputs as that will shatter president Emmerson Mnangagwa vision  of mitigating hunger.

Eunice Yuvera (60) of Tafdale farm said the program is a necessity as they have received the inputs earlier.

"This program is a necessity because we cannot afford inputs but the government has greatly assisted us and the timing is good as the farming season is just starting," she said.

Another farm worker Diston Jimali hailed government for not giving the inputs
on party grounds.

"This program is very exciting because it is not being issued on party grounds we dug holes and they inspected and everyone who is interested is benefiting," Jamali said.

President Mnangagwa said the program is l targeting  1,8 million households with a target of 1,8 million tonnes of cereal and 360 000 tonnes of oil seed.

Farmers are expected to plant three different crops that include cereals, oil seed and cash crops.
